An independent art history resource dedicated to the life and work of Sandro Botticelli.
About
SandroBotticelli.org is an independent art history resource dedicated to the life, works and legacy of Sandro Botticelli (c.1445–1510), the Florentine Renaissance painter.
Our aim is to make the study and appreciation of Botticelli's work accessible to everyone — from school students encountering the Birth of Venus for the first time, to art historians, practising artists, and anyone who has ever stood in the Uffizi and felt that something extraordinary was happening.
The site combines in-depth written content on Botticelli's life and individual paintings with museum-quality print reproductions, educational resources for teachers, and the Ask Botticelli AI — an experimental feature that lets visitors have a conversation with an AI persona of the artist himself.
All paintings reproduced on this site are in the public domain. Botticelli died in 1510 — his works have been free from copyright for many centuries. High-resolution reproductions are sourced from Wikimedia Commons, the Uffizi Gallery's open access programme, and other public domain image repositories.
The Ask Botticelli feature is powered by Claude, Anthropic's AI. It operates as an AI persona briefed on Botticelli's known biography, letters, contemporaries and works. Responses are AI-generated interpretations — not historical quotations. The feature is provided for educational and entertainment purposes. We clearly label all AI-generated content as such.
Print sales are fulfilled by Fine Art America, an independent print-on-demand platform. We earn a small affiliate commission on sales. Pricing, delivery and returns are handled directly by Fine Art America.
Digital resources (lesson plans, worksheets, technique guides) are delivered via Gumroad. All resources are original works created for this site.
